RESPONSIBILITIES @ TERRA NOVA

If Ed is the vision caster, I am the vision implementer. I handle much of the day to day stuff of running the church—the behind the scenes, detail kinds of things. I have oversight responsibilities with all internal ministry efforts and I do a fair amount of pastoral counseling in conjunction with my wife. In addition to this, I teach during Sunday worship somewhere around 10 times a year and in other venues. So, I’m an organizer/manager/preacher/teacher/counselor/shepherd/systems analyst/vision implementer/etc., etc. Out of this we get the tragically corporate sounding title of “Executive Pastor”.  My pet project is Theology @ The Taproom where we read books by dead people that most have never heard of, while drinking well crafted micro-brewed beer.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HIGHLIGHT OF TERRA NOVA FOR YOU SO FAR?

Hannibal . . . from that 1980's pinnacle of cultural and artistic achievement - "The A-Team" . . .  used to say at the end of each show: "I love it when a plan comes together".  About 18 months previous to our January 2006 launch, I had a burst of strategic thinking that felt very much like the Holy Spirit was working through me as my fingers typed as quickly as I possibly could for about two hours. When I finished, what I had in front of me on the screen was a rough time line with a fair amount of detail for implementing the vision that Ed Marcelle had been articulating to myself and Scott Womer through countless conversations at coffee shops throughout the Capital Region. Now that we have almost three years under our belts, I feel like I can start to look at what God has done here at Terra Nova and say that it feels like the plan is coming together.  As someone who loves strategic thinking, and is a confessed compulsive planner, this is really fun to watch. I look around now, and I see a few hundred people engaged in worship and community. I have watched people mature in their faith. I have watched people enter Terra Nova curious and somewhat guarded, and I have seen them open up as they first embraced Christ, and then embraced His church. I have seen artists valued for their creative role like never before. Watching God's plan come together is the greatest highlight so far for me.
